Most students in this group did a good job with their homework. So now, we know a know a lot of things about some cities, towns and villages.

In our last lesson students repeated the exercise we had done the week before - picking a picture of a city, town or village and the matching information - but this time they had a conversation with each one of their classmates. They asked each other the questions:

Where do you live?
and
What is _____(name of the place. Ex: London) like?

And answered:

It is an old historic city. (We use It is when we use adjectives or we say where they are).

There are long and wide streets.  (We use there is or there are when we talk about things the place has got).

There is for 1 thing. Singular. Ex: There is a park.
There are for 2 or more things. Plural. Ex: There are modern buildings.

We also study places in the city or town: post office, gas station, fire station, police station, hotel, restaurant, cafe, hairdresser's, bakery, pharmacy, fitness center, pet shop, ice cream shop, supermarket, bus stop. Do you remember any other places?

HOMEWORK
1. Write 3 sentences using there is about your street, neighborhood or town.

Ex: There is a pharmacy on my street.

2. Write 3 sentences using there are about your street, neighborhood or town.

Ex: There are 3 pet shops in Leganes.

3. Ask 2 questions. Ex: Is there a cinema in your village?

Yesterday we started a new unit. In this unit we learn how to talk about cities, towns, villages and also tourist resorts.

Madrid, London, New York and Paris are cities.

Leganes  is a town.

Most of the students go a to a village in the summer, usually their grandparents' village, which may be in Avila, Toledo, Guadalajara, Madrid, Caceres, etc.

Some adjectives we studies to talk about cities, towns or villages:

Beautiful, friendly, modern, old, historic, crowded, quiet, industrial, seaside.

We also talked about streets and said they could be wide, like Gran Via, or narrow, like San Jeronimo (near Puerta del Sol).

Other words we studied are: buildings, skyscrapers, lake.

Students were given a photograph of a city, town or village and they had to find the information about it. Example: one students got a picture of Tokyo and then found some information about it:

Very crowded.
Many lights.
Many modern buildings.

Another students got a picture of San Sebastian, in the North of Spain. Then, he/ she gathered the following information:

On the seaside.
Beautiful and elegant buildings.
Tourist town.

HOMEWORK

Find photos of  places: cities, towns or villages.

Just as in the examples above, say  3 things about each one of them.
